We already celebrated Father's Day in Italy on March 19. I got Andrea some flowers and took him out for dinner. And I got the distinct impression he was in meagre company. Italy still has some catching up to do with the Anglo world in recognizing and supporting dads who "lean in" at home. It certainly seems to be a bigger deal in North America. I was lucky to have reason to celebrate. Andrea is deeply involved in Peanut's life. He bathes him, dresses him, sometimes prepares his school snacks, takes him to school and often picks him up from school. He's Peanut's class representative, one of the most active parents at the school and volunteered to produce the end-of-the-year recital (I overheard a mum in the audience say, 'Wow, they really went all out this year!'). He also regularly takes him for weekend outings without me and takes care of nearly all doctor's visits.

I always say I wouldn't have married someone who didn't want to be majorly involved in raising a child, but I am nevertheless grateful everyday that's what I did. A warmest Happy Father's Day to Andrea and all the dedicated fathers out there like him.
