The path not taken: why hiring a pro photographer is worth it
I try really hard not to regret things, but there's one unfortunate decision of which I can't seem to let go. Worst of all, it's shamefully vain. Andrea and I threw our wedding party three years ago on the fly because we had to pay for everything ourselves. And to this day I rue having decided to skimp on my hair and the photography. I was seven-months pregnant--I should have invested more into making myself look like a princess, especially since I was feeling rather far from it. The great thing about beautiful photos is how they help you totally idealize the day. Which is what you want for your wedding.
At least I've learned my lesson. Pro photographers are worth every penny. When my sister-in-law suggested we share the cost of hiring one during a family weekend away (while we were visiting Victoria this summer), I jumped at the chance. Now, I can't rectify my mistake. Wedding photos are the kind of thing you look at often, and for a lifetime. But at least I can do better from here on out. To all my talented photographer friends, please forgive me for having insulted your craft. I get it now.
Marnie Recker shot my brother's wedding two years ago, so I already knew she took incredible photos. Obviously I could not pass up an opportunity like this. And I'm so grateful we have these gorgeous mementos of what was an unforgettable holiday.
