This woman is so inspiring. “Amelia” talks here about the sensation she has caused by blogging about how her 7-year-old son came out to her. Her reaction, and the hope she has given to queer kids everywhere, warms the heart. The world needs more parents like her: not just privately accepting but publicly proud.

At first most of the letters and messages I received were from children, who were usually about 14 to 18 yrs old. The majority of them were in really horrible situations with parents who somehow forgot their primary function as a parent, which is to love your kid. They really saw something powerful in what I said, that I was this mom who was looking at my own child and saying, this is totally cool if this is who he is. It was really remarkable to them that I would say that, because their own parents did not.
